Ask the Candidates: Virginia's 10th Congressional District
Patch is collecting reader questions to be answered by candidates in Virginia's 10th Congressional District.
Are you concerned about transportation funding? Sequestration or federal government cutbacks? The environment? Traffic in Northern Virginia? The cost of health care?
Now is your chance to step up to the podium and get your questions answered.
As we approach November's election, we will be asking candidates for U.S. Congress in Virginia's 10th District — incumbent Frank Wolf, Democrat Kristin Cabral and Independent Kevin Chisholm — to answer a Patch candidates' survey.
The survey will be driven by questions from you.
You can submit your questions in the comments section below this article, or email them to nicole.trifone@patch.com.
The deadline to submit a question is 11:59 p.m. Oct. 14. We'll review all the submissions, pass questions along to the candidates and come back with the answers later this month.

1 in 88 children is diagnosed with autism in this country. What will you do to continuing funding for research, education, and long term care? Will you support and fund IDEA? Do you support the ABLE Act (Rep Wolf is a cosponsor) and will you actively work for its passage (it creates 529 accounts for people with special needs that does not count against income requirements for long term care funding like SSDI)? Will you continue to support Medicaid funding in its current form, knowing that the Commonwealth of Virginia doesn't have the best track record in providing community based services and long term care, evidenced by their waitlist of several thousand people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, the overinstitutionalized of these people (in violation of Olmstead), and the Department of Justice's recent involvement with and legal action against the state.
1 in 88 children, 1 in 4 boys... including my son. I hope the Patch will find the time to ask my question and the candidate will provide thoughtful answers.

This is an excellent question. I wonder, though, if your numbers could be a little bit off? If the diagnosis affects 1 in 88 children overall, but 1 in 4 boys, then that would make the ratio of females to males born in this country extremely high.
The CDC reports that 1 out of 54 boys is identified as having an Autism Spectrum Disorder, which is 5 times the rate of the same identification among girls (1 in 252). Is that what you meant to say?

Oops, it was early. I mistyped - I thought it was 1 in 44, but 54 seems to be the appropriate number. Thanks for pointing that out.

Will either candidate address the apparent near-double price of the Silver Line (BEFORE finance costs are added)? Why were the near-double priced cost estimates not challenged by our leadership? Why did our leaders not demand an explanation from the cost estimators? What will either candidate do to stop MWAA from approving overpriced bids for Phase II of this project?

Look Wolf is only going to blame MWAA for everything because it distracts the public from him not doing his job. It's his job to get funding from the federal government. It's his job to talk to LaHood and McDonald to fund this project. He is a joke. This MWAA dysfunctional crap coming from a dysfunctional member of congress is a joke. But the joke is on all of us for electing this idiot. He needs to go. Please vote him out of office. 32 years in congress and we all wonder why nothing changes. Wake up people. No more Wolf!

Frank Wolf is the one who did the most to show us what was going on at MWAA. That said, he has said NOTHING about the excessive pricetags on this Silver Line (Dulles rail) project. The construction prices appear to be almost two times what they should be. I'm not sure that his competitors will even question such things at all. If so, then let's see some action!
Isn't it obvious that the near-double price of the Silver Line job is causing most of the economic dificulties this project has? I'd like to see the candidates comment on the facts presented in ths article:

Rep Wolfe:
You have been re-elected Congressman for this district numerous times because of your moderate views on most issues. Unlike others in your party, you have the seniority and gravitas to be the leader to reach across the aisle and be the true catalyst for bi-partisan change and COMPROMISE!!!!
Will you fight you own party's stubborn attitude to be that leader to GET THINGS DONE?!?
Don't be like others of your level of seniority and simply quit, like Sen Snowe.

fairfax county has an estimate GDP of 95 billion dollars and an equally high per capita income. ignoring the spin-off effect that government contracts and defense industries provide to its local economy, what can ffx county do to attract and retain more local businesses that engage in commercial interests outside of this sector? how can fairfax county establish itself as an incubator of new technologies and startup firms?

I often wonder and maybe one of these two candidates can explain why the industry along the Dulles Toll Road and Silver line do not have any input into the expense of building the Silver line??? They benefit from all of this, I would think they do.....

I wonder if citizens in Prince William County are aware that there are three candidates running for the 10th Congressional District (where Wolf is the incumbent) and that the one debate held in the area (May 26) will only include two of the candidates. The PW County Committee of 100 is not inviting the third candidate (me). Therefore, all those persons attending the debate will not have an opportunity to know more about me. I am a no nonsense professional engineer with much knowledge of the Federal government from 31 years experience in Northern Virginia.
I am not a professional politician and talker extraordinare. I am very concerned about the future of the United States and the lack of honest leadership. I suggest you contact the PWC Committee of 100 to indicate your preference for my inclusion, if that is what you want.
