What's so impressive about Ken is he does all this on his own. He gets up every morning and he wants to go and work out and play football. This is what he wants to do."

Coach Haddock "I don't know if I've ever coached a kid that's more deserving of the accolades and attention that he's received. He's obviously an athletic talent of the highest quality, but he's also a kid of high character. To me, that's what matters the most. He's a great kid. There's nobody in this building that has a bad word to say about the kid. His teachers love him, all the people that have had a chance to coach him love him because of the type of kid he is."

Ken Ekanem commented about receiving so much attention from the press and recruiters, "It teaches me how to be more humble. I don't like all the attention to be on me. I'd like it to be on my teammates. I always hoped that scouts going to my game would see my teammates having a really good game and they would come out with a scholarship."

Centreville football Coach Haddock says of Ekenam, "He's a humble kid. He's taken all this attention in stride. I know that it's been very stressful for him because he's had so much attention and he's not that type of kid, but he's handled it very well. I've been very impressed with the homework he's done on the schools that have recruited him and I think he deserves every bit of what he's getting."

Ken Ekanem shakes hands with his football coach, Coach Haddock. Coach Haddock commented on Ken, "He's a lead-by-example type of guy. As the season progressed, he played his best games in our big games. A lot of his teammates, and certainly the coaches, were looking to him to make big plays and he didn't let us down in that regard. He played his best games as they got bigger and I think that's a mark of a great player when they're playing their best in the big games. It was nice to count on that."

At National Signing Day at Centreville High School two-time All-Met defensive end Ken Ekanem announced his decision to attend Virginia Tech. Ekanem, of Clifton, had 20 offers from other colleges and decided to become a Hokie.

Five other Centreville top athletes signed to play in college. Zach Sakora signed to play lacrosse for Rutgers. Connor Coward signed to play soccer for James Madison University. Three baseball players also committed to play: Bobby San Martin signed to play for James Madision University, Kevin Lachance for UMBC and Texas Williams for Temple University.
