Fairfax County Parkway Lane Closures This Week

Virginia Megaprojects released their information on road closures the week of June 19 on the Fairfax County Parkway and beyond.

BRAC / FAIRFAX COUNTY PARKWAY EXTENSION PROJECT

Nighttime work - Closures occur between 9:30 p.m. and 5 a.m. unless otherwise noted.

  • Fairfax County Pkwy. (Route 7100/286) from Gambril Rd. overpass to Rolling Rd. overpass - Two right lanes closed Wednesday and Thursday nights for sign installation. Expect intermittent closures of up to 15 minutes at 10 p.m. and midnight.

Daytime work - Closures occur Monday - Thursday between 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Friday from 9:30 to noon unless otherwise noted.

  • Fairfax County Pkwy. (Route 7100/286) north and south from Pohick Rd. overpass to Rolling Rd. - Single lane closed Monday - Friday for paving, signage and electrical work.
  • Franconia Springfield Pkwy. (Route 7900/289) ramp to Brakers Ct. - Alternating single lane closures Monday - Friday for shoulder work.
  • Franconia Springfield Pkwy. (Route 7900/289) east from Rolling Rd. to Accotink Creek bridge - Single lane closed Monday - Friday for signal, electrical and paving work.
  • Franconia Springfield Pkwy. (Route 7900/289) east to Barkers Ct. - Partial ramp closed Monday - Friday for shoulder work.
  • Fairfax County Pkwy. extension (Route 7100/286) north to Franconia-Springfield Pkwy (Route 7900/289) - Single lane of ramp closed Monday - Friday for shoulder work.
  • Fairfax County Pkwy. extension (Route 7100/286) north and south from Barta Rd. to new Rolling Rd. overpass - Single lane closed Monday - Friday for paving and median work.
  • Relocated Rolling Rd. north and south from Richfield Rd. to Barkers Ct. - Single lane closures Monday - Friday for shoulder construction. Two-way traffic will be directed by a flagger.

DULLES CORRIDOR METRORAIL PROJECT

Nighttime work - Closures occur between 9:30 p.m. and 5 a.m. unless otherwise noted.

  • Dulles Toll Rd. (Route 267) east from Trap Rd. to Spring Hill Rd. - Left lane closed Sunday - Wednesday nights for bridge work.
  • Dulles International Airport Access Hwy. east from Trap Rd. to Leesburg Pike (Route 7) - Right lane closed Sunday, Tuesday and Wednesday nights for bridge work. 
  • Leesburg Pike (Route 7) east to Dulles Toll Rd. (Route 267) east - Ramp closed Monday and Thursday nights for station work. Traffic will be directed to continue east, make a U-turn at Tyco Rd. onto Leesburg Pike (Route 7) west and follow signs to Dulles Toll Rd. (Route 267) east.
  • Leesburg Pike (Route 7) west from Spring Hill Rd. to Westwood Center Dr. - Left lane and left turn lanes closed Monday - Saturday nights for station work. Traffic will be directed to continue west, make a U-turn at Jarrett Valley Dr. onto Leesburg Pike (Route 7) east and make a right onto Westwood Center Dr.
  • Leesburg Pike (Route 7) east from Westwood Center Dr. to Spring Hill Rd. - Left lane and two left turn lanes closed Sunday - Saturday nights for station work. Traffic will be directed to continue east make a U-turn at Westpark Dr. onto Leesburg Pike (Route 7) west and make a right onto Spring Hill Rd.
  • Leesburg Pike (Route 7) east from Jarrett Valley Dr. to Dulles Toll Rd. (Route 267) - Left lane closed Sunday - Thursday nights for barrier work.
  • Leesburg Pike (Route 7) east from Gosnell Rd. to Chain Bridge Rd. (Route 123) - Two left lanes closed Sunday nights for equipment work.
  • Chain Bridge Rd. (Route 123) north at Tysons Blvd. - Left turn lane closed Monday – Saturday nights for station work. Prior to work zone, traffic will be directed to make a left onto International Dr., right onto Galleria Dr. and follow signs to Tysons Blvd.
  • Chain Bridge Rd. (Route 123) south at Tysons Blvd. – Two right lanes closed Monday – Saturday nights for station work. Traffic will be directed to continue south, make a right onto International Dr., right onto Galleria Dr. and follow signs to Tysons Blvd.

Police will be on site for motorist safety.
All closures are weather permitting.

Weekday work

  • Expect daytime delays between 9:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. in the Tysons Corner area along the Dulles Connector Road (Route 267), Leesburg Pike (Route 7) and Dolley Madison Blvd. (Route 123).

495 EXPRESS LANES PROJECT

Nighttime work - Closures occur between 9:30 p.m. and 5 a.m. unless otherwise noted.

  • I-495 south from Exit 44, Georgetown Pike (Route 193) to Oak St. overpass - Three lanes closed Monday – Saturday nights for overhead sign and paving work. Expect intermittent full road closures of up to 30 minutes after midnight.
  • Lewinsvilles Rd. overpass north or south at I-495 - Road closed Friday and Saturday nights for traffic shift. Flagger onsite to direct two way traffic.
  • I-495 south to Exit 45B, Dulles Connector Rd. (Route 267) east - Ramp closed Sunday - Friday for overhang removal. Traffic will be directed to continue south to Exit 46B, Chain Bridge Rd. (Route 123) north and follow signs to Dulles Connector Rd. (Route 267) east.
  • Dulles International Airport Access Hwy. east and west at Leesburg Pike (Route 7) - Single lane closed Tuesday night for sign work. Expect intermittent full road closures of up to 30 minutes after midnight.
  • Dulles Connector Rd. (Route 267) east to I-495 north and south - Ramps closed Sunday - Thursday nights for electrical work and signal bores. Traffic will be directed to continue west to Exit 19B, Chain Bridge Rd. (Route 123) south and follow signs to I-495 north or south.
  • Dulles Toll Rd. (Route 267) east at Spring Hill Rd. - Five lanes closed Wednesday night for sign installation. Expect intermittent full road closures of up to 30 minutes after midnight.
  • I-495 north to Exit 45A, Dulles Connector Rd. (Route 267) west - Ramp closed Monday - Friday nights for drainage work. Traffic will be directed to continue north to Exit 44, Georgetown Pike (Route 193) west, stay to the left, follow signs to I-495 south and take Exit 45A, Dulles Connector Rd. (Route 267) west.
  • I-495 south to Exit 46 A or B, Chain Bridge Rd. (Route 123) south or north - Ramps closed Sunday - Saturday nights for paving. Traffic will be directed to Exit 47A, Leesburg Pike (Route 7) west, make a right on International Dr. north and follow signs to Chain Bridge Rd. (Route 123).
  • I-495 north to Exit 46 A or B, Chain Bridge Rd. (Route 123) south or north - Ramps closed Sunday - Saturday nights for paving. Traffic will be directed to take Exit 44, Georgetown Pike (Route 193) west, stay to the left follow signs to I-495 south and take Exit 46 A or B, Chain Bridge Rd. (Route 123) south or north.
  • Chain Bridge Rd. (Route 123) north to I-495 south - Ramp closed Sunday - Saturday nights for bridge painting. Traffic will be directed to continue north to I-495 north, stay to the right to enter onto Chain Bridge Rd. (Route 123) south and follow signs to I-495 south.
  • Chain Bridge Rd. (Route 123) north and south at Westpark Dr. overpass - Two right lanes closed Monday - Saturday nights for signal work. Expect intermittent full road closures of up to 30 minutes after midnight.
  • I-495 south to Exit 47B, Leesburg Pike (Route 7) east - Ramp closed Monday - Saturday nights for paving. Traffic will be directed to take Exit 47B, Leesburg Pike (Route 7) west and make a U-turn at International Dr. onto Leesburg Pike (Route 7) east.
  • I-495 north to Exit 47A and B, Leesburg Pike (Route 7) west and east - Ramps closed Monday - Saturday nights for paving. Traffic will be directed to continue north to Exit 46A, Chain Bridge Rd. (Route 123) south, make a left onto International Dr. south and follow signs to Leesburg Pike (Route 7).
  • Leesburg Pike (Route 7) west and east to I-495 north - Ramp closed Monday - Saturday nights for paving. Traffic will be directed to take International Dr. north, make a right onto Chain Bridge Rd. (Route 123) north and follow signs to I-495 north.
  • Leesburg Pike (Route 7) west and east to I-495 south - Ramps closed Sunday - Saturday nights for sign work and paving. Traffic will be directed to make a right onto International Dr. north, make a right onto Chain Bridge Rd. (Route 123) north and follow signs to I-495 south.
  • Jones Branch Dr. north and south from Westpark Dr. to Westbranch Dr. - Road closed Monday - Friday nights for sign work. Traffic will be directed to follow posted detour signs.
  • Westpark Dr. overpass at Chain Bridge Rd. (Route 123) - Road closed Sunday and Monday nights for sign work. Traffic will be directed to follow posted detour signs.
  • I-495 south from Oak St. overpass to Lee Hwy. (Route 29) overpass - Three lanes closed Sunday - Saturday nights for paving and utility work. Expect intermittent full road closures of up to 30 minutes after midnight.
  • I-495 north from Oak St. overpass to Exit 44, Georgetown Pike (Route 193) - Three lanes closed Sunday - Saturday nights for paving, painting, and utility work.  Expect intermittent full road closures of up to 30 minutes after midnight.
  • I-495 south to Exit 49, I-66 west - Ramp closed Sunday - Saturday nights for demolition. Detour for full ramp closure - Traffic will be directed to continue south to Exit 52B, Little River Tpk. (Route 236) east, stay to the right, follow signs to I-495 north and take Exit 49, I-66 west.
  • I-66 west to I-495 south - Ramp closed Sunday - Saturday nights for overhead sign installation and road work. Traffic will be directed to continue west to Exit 62, Nutley St. south, stay to the right, follow signs to I-66 east to I-495 south.
  • I-66 west from I-495 to Gallows Rd. overpass - Two lanes closed Friday and Saturday nights for bridge demolition. Expect a single intermittent closure of one hour at midnight follow by additional intermittent closures of up to 30 minutes.
  • I-66 west from Exit 67, Dulles Connector Rd. (Route 267) to Gallows Rd. overpass - Two lanes closed Sunday - Saturday nights for utility and sign work. Expect intermittent full road closures of up to 30 minutes after midnight.
  • I-66 east from Exit 62, Nutley St. to Exit 67, Dulles Connector Rd. (Route 267) - Three lanes closed Sunday - Saturday nights for overhead sign installation. Expect intermittent full road closures of up to 30 minutes after midnight.
  • I-66 east general purpose ramp (right exit) or HOV (left exit) to I-495 north or south - Ramp closed Sunday - Saturday nights for bridge demolition and sign work. Traffic will be directed to use the I-66 east HOV ramp (left exit) or general purpose ramp (right exit) to access I-495 north or south. 
  • Nutley St. north and south to I-66 east - Ramps closed Sunday - Saturday nights for overhead sign installation. Traffic will be directed to take I-66 west to Exit 57A, Lee Jackson Memorial Hwy. (Route 50) east, stay to the right and follow signs to I-66 east.
  • Lee Hwy. (Route 29) at Shreve Rd. - Right lane closed Monday - Thursday nights for sign work.
  • I-495 north at Exit 50, Arlington Blvd. (Route 50) - Road closed Friday night for joint repair. Traffic will be directed to use the collector distributor road.
  • I-495 south at Exit 50, Arlington Blvd. (Route 50) - Road closed Saturday night for joint repair. Traffic will be directed to use the collector distributor road.
  • I-495 north from Exit 50, Arlington Blvd. (Route 50) to Oak St. overpass - Three lanes closed Sunday - Saturday nights for paving, utility work and steel beam erection. Expect intermittent full road closures of up to 30 minutes after midnight.
  • I-495 north to Exit 52A, Little River Tpk. (Route 236) west - Ramp closed Sunday - Saturday nights for paving and barrier movement. Traffic will be directed to continue north to Exit 51, Gallows Rd. (Route 650) north, stay to the right, follow signs to I-495 south and take Exit 52A, Little River Tpk. (Route 236) west.
  • I-495 south to Exit 52B, Little River Tpk. (Route 236) east - Ramp closed Monday - Saturday nights for paving and barrier movement. Traffic will be directed to continue south to Exit 54B, Braddock Rd. (Route 620) east, stay to the right, follow signs to I-495 north and take Exit 52B, Little River Tpk. (Route 236) east.
  • I-495 south to Exit 54B, Braddock Rd. (Route 620) east - Ramp closed Sunday - Saturday nights for bridge work. Traffic will be directed to take Exit 54A, Braddock Rd. (Route 620) west and make a left at the traffic signal onto Braddock Rd. (Route 620) east.
  • Little River Tpk. (Route 236) west to I-495 south - Ramp closed Sunday - Saturday nights for paving and barrier movement. Traffic will be directed to take I-495 north to Exit 51, Gallows Rd. (Route 650) north, stay to the right and follow signs to I-495 south.
  • Little River Tpk. (Route 236) east to I-495 north - Ramp closed Sunday - Saturday nights for paving and barrier movement. Traffic will be directed to take I-495 south to Exit 54B, Braddock Rd. (Route 620) east and follow signs to I-495 north.
  • I-495 south from Wakefield Park pedestrian bridge to Heming Ave. underpass - Three lanes closed Monday - Thursday nights for bridge work. Expect intermittent full road closures of up to 30 minutes after midnight.
  • I-495 north at Exit 54A and B, Braddock Rd. (Route 620) west and east - Ramps closed Sunday - Saturday nights for milling and paving. Traffic will be directed to continue north to Exit 52A, Little River Tpk. (Route 236) west, stay to the right, follow signs to I-495 south and take Exit 54A, Braddock Rd. (Route 54) west.
  • Braddock Rd. (Route 620) west to I-495 north - Ramp closed Sunday - Saturday nights for milling and paving. Prior to work zone, traffic will be directed to make a right onto Backlick Rd. north, a left onto Little River Tpk. (Route 236) west and follow signs to I-495 north.
  • Braddock Rd. (Route 620) east to I-495 north - Ramp closed Sunday - Saturday nights for milling and paving. Traffic will be directed to continue east and make a left onto Backlick Rd. north, left onto Little River Tpk. (Route 236) west and follow signs to I-495 north.
  • Braddock Rd. (Route 620) east to I-495 south - Single lane of ramp closed Friday night for sign installation. Expect intermittent full ramp closures of up to 30 minutes after midnight.
  • Braddock Rd. (Route 620) east and west from Port Royal Rd. to I-495 - Road closed Friday night for sign installation. Two-way traffic will be directed by a flagger on Braddock Rd. (Route 620) east. 
  • I-495 north at Robinson Terminal - Three lanes closed Sunday - Saturday nights for sign installation. Expect intermittent full road closures of up to 30 minutes after midnight.

  • Expect single lane closures on the Inner and Outer Loops of I-495 from Springfield Interchange to beyond the Dulles Toll Rd. (Route 267) within the project area including all connecting arterials.
