Holiday Weather Outlook

Fourth of July forecast: high of 95 degrees, possible thunderstorms.

Independence Day temperatures in Northern Virginia will hit 95 degrees on Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service.

"Hazy, hot and humid" is how the Capital Weather Gang describes expected weather on the July 4th holiday. The combination of heat and humidity will create a heat index in excess of 100 degrees, the NWS report stated.

Forecasters predict a partly sunny day with a 40 percent chance of afternoon/evening thunderstorms. Some of the storms may be severe, according to the NWS. Got pets? Keep them safe during thunderstorms—tips here.

If you're heading into D.C. to see the fireworks, here are a few things to know.

For the rest of the week, Thursday, Friday and Saturday, the days will be even hotter--hitting 98 and 99 degrees. Beginning Sunday the Northern Virginia area will see slightly cooler temperatures with a high on Sunday of 94 degrees and a high on Monday of "just" 89 degrees.
