Whole Foods Market in Springfield donated 5 percent of its proceeds Wednesday to the Friends of Hidden Pond Nature Center

The grocer partners with a selected non-profit organization once per quarter.

"The 5% Day of Community Giving is one way Whole Foods Market gives back to the community," said Janelle Cesari, a marketing team leader.

Hidden Pond will use the money for education supplies, new water sampling docks and workshop fees for children from low income families, according to the Fairfax County Park Foundation.

Naturalists from the nature center were at the store with displays, live reptiles and amphibians, face painting and snacks. Shoppers also entered to win a Whole Foods Market back-to-school goodie basket.
