Robinson's boys and girls cross country participated in their first scrimmage of the season on Aug. 17. They ran the first two miles of the cross country course at Burke Lake Park against Chantilly, Lee, and Langley.
"For many, this was their first race experience and I think we learned a lot," said cross country head coach Kim Coffield. "Everyone showed us that they are right where we want them to be at this point in the season. We are looking forward to a great season from our runners."
Nick Marshall and Ava Benham were named the first athletes of the week.
"Marshall came back from a tough junior year, trained hard over the summer and started off his year with a great time trial," said Coffield. "We love that Nick has stuck with running after a tough injury last year and is back for a great senior season. We are all excited to see amazing things from him this year."
"Ava Benham also had a fabulous summer of training," said Coffield. "During outdoor track, she was a pole vaulter, which gave her a lot more strength than she had before. She came into this season looking strong and ready to run fast. I know Ava has big things in store for her this season."
Nathan Schulte was the first recipient of the "Golden Cone Award."
"So far this season, he has exemplified teamwork, dedication, positive attitude and fabulous work," said Coffield. Nathan will choose the recipient of this award Aug. 24.
The next scrimmage is Aug. 25, at home against Centreville. It begins at 8 a.m.
