The National Weather Service issued a Tornado Warning for the Northern Virginia area that expired Saturday at 4:15 p.m.
Unconfirmed reports say a tornado may have touched down in the area, but "we haven't been able to confirm anything yet," said Jeremy Lasich, a spokesman for Fairfax County.
Officials from Fairfax County Fire and Rescue were on the scene Saturday afternoon at two townhomes and an apartment building in the Herndon and Reston area, where trees had fallen on roofs, according to Jeremy Lasich. The streets where the activity took place are: Scandia Circle, Lap Stroke Lane and South Shore Drive, he said.
Out at Dulles International Airport, an unnamed airline employee told Patch two United 737 passenger planes were "blown three feet off their gates."
At least four inbound flights were diverted to Richmond, the employee said. Bag carts on the ramp at Dulles were reportedly blown into the engine of an Aer Lingus A330 plane.
There are also unconfirmed reports of a tree falling on a house on Lapstrake Lane, located off of Lee Chapel Road in Burke.

Dear Dominion, When the power goes outmost people turn to their smartphone for answers. It would help if your DomComFlexOutage map worked via a smartphone.
PS: And yes. People have laptops that are charged, but modems run on power. Unless they have a phone with an enabled hotspot my previous comments still apply.
Thank you

Apparently there WAS a tornado that hit Reston/Herndon yesterday. I was not far from there, shopping in a Walmart, and you could really hear the roar of the winds! http://www.restonian.org/2012/09/apparently-that-was-tornado-that-hit.html

Hi Amelie, the National Weather Service's "preliminary finding" as of this morning is that there was not a tornado on Saturday, but that finding is not finalized.
