Blog: Are You A Senior Voter?

Many seniors have felt disenfranchised by the current Virginia voter ID laws. Virginia Organizing wants to make sure you have all the information you need to vote! Please forward this information on to any friends and family who are seniors to make sure they know what they need to vote!

There are several forms of ID that meet Virginia requirements. A few of them are:

  • Virginia voter registration card
  • Medicaid, Medicare, or Social Security card*
  • A bank statement, utility bill, paycheck stub, or government check with your current name and address
  • Driver's license or other government-issued photo ID

*If you are a first-time voter, you CANNOT use your Social Security card, Medicare card, Medicaid card or Birth Certificate to satisfy the federal ID requirements! You must bring another form of ID to the polls.

By now, you should have received your voter registration card in the mail. If you did not receive that card, click here to search your registration status on the Virginia State Board of Elections website, or call your local registrar. Virginia Organizing recommends everyone check their voter registration status before the Oct. 15 registration deadline to ensure you are an active, registered voter. If your address or name is incorrect, or there are other errors in your registration, you must contact your registrar before the Oct. 15 deadline.

For your convenience, Virginia Organizing has posted information on our website for students, seniors and first-time voters. We have also summarized some changes to the law. You can find all this information by clicking here! Please pass along to your friends and family members who may be first-time voters!

Because all active registered voters received a voter registration card in the mail, it is best to use your voter registration card as your ID. The voter registration card meets both the federal and state ID requirements. Please click here for a complete list of identifications that meet the Virginia voter ID requirements and the federal (HAVA) ID requirements for first time voters.

If you're a senior, you can vote a curbside in-person absentee ballot, especially at the satellite polling places when they open on the 17th.

A friend or relative, who goes with you to the polling place, can go into the poll and ask the chief election officer to bring a ballot or touch screen out to the car.

VOTER DISCRETION
A great event of United States History has been made.
Do not foul it.

God and the People have provided the United States their first black President. One of goodness and intentions for the people and nation as a whole.
The argument here is that of the legacy of our only first historical Black President, of no major wrong, denying him of his historically expected full term in Office. The World and God will stand in judgment as to our true equality as a people and nation.
Therefore, I suggest to you think about the consequences of this election and its historical outcome rather than a Party defeats a Party. The nation will not go to hell as a direct result of President Barack Obama's re-election. The legacy of our first Black President will be preserved in good standing and the Republican Party will be in a much better position of support by the next election, rather, than a possible suspected racist party.
YOUR VOTE WILL MAKE THE DIFFERENCE.
