UPDATE (5:15 p.m.) The National Weather Service has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch for the Washington D.C. area and western suburbs until 11 p.m. (Wednesday). Winds of up to 40 miles per hour are expected.

The National Weather Service reports the Washington area may see some severe thunderstorms later today (Wednesday).  Scattered showers are expected off and on today, turning into possible thunderstorms this afternoon, with an 80 percent chance of thunderstorms this evening. NWS predicts highs of 58 degrees today.

Temperatures will decrease on Thursday, to a high of 47 degrees and lows of below freezing, to 28 degrees. More showers are in the forecast for Thursday, with sunny skies coming on Friday.
