Feral Cat Stuck in Rafters at Crosspointe Animal Hospital

Mittens, a four-year-old feral cat, has been stuck in the rafters of Crosspointe Animal Hospital  in Fairfax Station for more than a week. The cat was brought by its owner to receive its rabies vaccine on July 19, got spooked and jumped from the examining table to a light fixture and into the rafters of the building.

"They put cat traps out in the ceiling area and on the main floor, but that didn't seem to work," said Mittens' owner John Monrreal. "The idea is that you take your cat to the vet to have it taken care of, but then they lose it."

A building contractor went into the rafters and saw Mittens, but was unable to catch him, said Monrreal. Cat traps with food were set, and food and water were left out at certain spots along the rafters.

"But he hasn't eaten any of the food or had any of the water," said Monrreal.

Crosspointe Animal Hospital closes at noon on Saturdays and is closed on Sunday. Patch left a message and is waiting for word back on an update.

Mittens, an orange cat with white paws, was born in Monrreal's back yard, lives outside and is fed by neighbors.

"We want to do anything that we can to get some action," said Monrreal. "We're afraid of giving up hope after 10 days."
