2. On Feb. 19, 1045, more than 30,000 U.S. Marines landed on the Japanese Isaland of Iwo Jima. The battle resulted in 20,000 enemy deaths and 6,800 American deaths. Only 216 Japanese were captured as prisoners, as their commander vowed to never surrender.

3. Famous Birthdays: American actor Jeff Daniels is 58; British singer Seal is 50 and actor Benicio del Toro is 46.

4. The weather today will be rainy with a high near 50 degrees, according to the National Weather Service. The evening will be mostly clear with a low temperature of about 28.
