1. Friends of Burke Centre Blizzard of Books Sale
Where/When: Burke Centre Library, 5935 Freds Oak Road, Burke/Thursday, Feb. 24, 6-9 p.m., Friday 10 a.m.-6 p.m., Saturday, 10 a.m.-5 p.m.

Why Go: You can pick up a couple of good books to get you through the rest of winter and stock up on beach reads for the summer. The library depends on your continued support and donations to put on their year-round workshops and children’s programs.
Pricing: Free to browse, paperbacks are 50 cents to $1, hardbacks $2 and children’s books are $1

2. Capital Home & Garden Show
Where/When: Dulles Expo Center, /Friday Feb. 25, 9 a.m.-9 p.m.; Saturday Feb.26, 9 a.m.-9 p.m.; Sunday Feb. 27, 9 a.m.-6 p.m.
Why Go: The Home & Garden show is a “do it yourselfer’s” dream. There will be speakers, exhibits and representatives from local home improvement businesses. This is a great way to get new design ideas, gather information on new products or find a professional to help you with your next remodeling project.
Pricing: Adults $13, Children 6-12 $3, ages 5 and under are free
3. Battle of the Bands
Where/When: Jaxx Nightclub - 6355 Rolling Road, Springfield/Saturday, Feb. 26 Doors open at 12 p.m.
Why Go: Watch your favorite local bands including Halcyon, Crash Concept, Amethyst Heart, Katabasis, Evereaux, Static Cinema, A World Away, Ten Black Lines and Pulse battle it out for a $1,000 cash prize. This is an "All Ages" show.
Pricing: $10 in advance, $12 day of the show
4. Step Show
Where/When: Center for the Arts Concert Hall at George Mason University, 4400 University Drive, Fairfax /Saturday Feb. 26 at 6 p.m.
Why Go: The Divine Nine historically Black Greek lettered fraternities and sororities are each performing their own step routine. Stepping is a form of choreographed rhythmic movement that incorporates dance, gymnastics and chanting. This event is an entertaining and educational way to celebrate Black History month.
Pricing: $15
5. Drumline Live
Where/When: Center for the Arts Concert Hall at George Mason University, 4400 University Drive, Fairfax /Sunday Feb. 27 at 7 p.m.
Why Go: Drumline LIVE brings the show-style marching bands from the football field to the stage. This show is based on the halftime traditions at historically black colleges and universities and includes everything from choreographed routines to intense drum riffs that the whole family will enjoy.
Pricing: Tickets range from $23-$46
