More Than 100 Take Part in Clifton Church Fundraiser to Support Mission Work

More than 100 participated in spaghetti dinner and auction Saturday night in Clifton

On Saturday evening, the parking lot at Clifton Presbyterian Church (CPC) was packed for the Annual Spaghetti Dinner and Silent Auction. The event drew scores of church members and local residents who not only turned out to fill their bellies, but also the parish coffers in CPC's mission to help the needy.

"All the proceeds go to our mission work, in particular our summer trips," said Jennifer Dunfee, associate pastor for youth and families.  This year, CPC will send 15 college students and adults to Hospital St. Croix in Leogane, Haiti for a week that will include Memorial Day.

With 80-90 percent of the buildings and infrastructure destroyed, a U. N. team recently determined Leogane to be among the worst affected areas in the 2010 earthquake that hit Haiti.

In June, an additional 20 middle school and high school students will travel to Cumberland, Md. as part of a NAILS effort to repair homes of families in need.  All funds raised from Saturday's dinner will be used to purchase supplies for the homes that volunteers will build.  Silent auction proceeds help fund CPC mission work throughout the year. Dunfee said she was very grateful for the community's support.

Among the more than 100 diners was state Sen. George Barker (D-39).  Attendees were treated to an antipasto bar, spaghetti and meatballs.  Homemade tiramisu and cannolis were also served by young church volunteers in black tie.  Area musician Demetrios provided live music.
