PHOTO: Blue Heron Near Farrs Corner

Local photographer captures nature scenes in and around Northern Virginia, including the Occoquan River and other tributaries.

This photo by local photograper Chris Koberg was taken near Farrs Corner, an unincorporated area of Fairfax County about five miles southeast of Clifton. Farrs Corner is named after the junction between Henderson Road and Wolf Run Shoals Road.

A water bird, the Great Blue Heron, Ardea Herodias, can grow up to four feet tall with a wingspan of nearly six feet as an adult, according to an informative Web site from Island Creek Elementary School in Kingstowne.
