Photo: Webb Sanctuary in Clifton Still Green

Fall has avoided the Clifton sanctuary, but not for much longer.

Leaves are changing color all over Northern Virginia, but recent rainy weather has Clifton's Webb Sanctuary resembling a tropical rainforest.

Sure, you'll see the occasional red and orange leaves here and there - like red polka dots on a green shirt. It won't last too much longer, though. The weather is getting colder, and soon the Sanctuary will be a sea of yellow, orange and red.

The Webb Sanctuary, which is maintained by the Audubon Naturalist Society, is open from dawn until dusk. It has a self-guided trail and is home to native orchids, numerous amphibian species and birds.
