Concerts, Boat Rides, Model Trains, and More

Patch has got a fun weekend planned for you. We’ve got outdoor concerts; kayak and boat rides (including one for you and your dog); and a running model train display that will delight your inner child.  Summer isn’t over yet!

Paddle the Occoquan - Morning Tour

  • Where: Fountainhead Regional Park, 10875 Hampton Rd, Fairfax Station, VA 22039
  • When: Saturday, Aug. 20 at 11 a.m.
  • Why Go: Explore the Occoquan Reservoir by kayak as the day begins on the water. No experience necessary!  Reservations are required for this event.
  • Price: $25

The ATOMIC Swing Club at Mason District Park Amphitheater

  • When: Friday, Aug. 19 at 7:30 p.m.
  • Why Go: A high-energy concert that includes vintage swing, rockabilly swing, jump blues, and big band.

Braddock Nights Concert Series at Royal Lake Park AND Lake Accotink Park

  • Where: Royal Lake Park, 5344 Gainsborough Drive, Fairfax and Lake Accotink Park, 7500 Accotink Park Road, Springfield.
  • When: Both concerts are on Friday, Aug. 19 at 7:30 p.m.
  • Why Go: Enjoy an evening of Bluegrass music, regardless of your choice of venue. Andrew Acosta String Band will be performing at Royal Lake Park. At Lake Accotink Park you’ll hear the music of Annapolis Bluegrass Coalition. 
  • Price: FREE

Sunset Cruises on Lake Accotink

  • Where: 7500 Accotink Park Road, Springfield
  • When: Saturday, Aug. 20 at 7 p.m. and Sunday, Aug. 21, at 7 p.m.
  • Why Go: The Adult Sunset Cruise on Saturday night will take you along the shoreline of Lake Accotink while you learn about the area's history and wildlife. Beverages will be served on board.  Registration is required.
  • Sunday evening’s Canine Cruise is for ages 8 and up.  Relax on a sunset pontoon ride with your favorite pooch. Only one dog allowed per person, please. Registration is required.
  • Price: $6 per person (no charge for dogs on Canine Cruise)

Russian Cultural Heritage Night at Ossian Hall

  • Where: , 7830 Heritage Drive, Annandale
  • When: Sunday, Aug. 21 at 7 p.m. with movie starting at dark
  • Why Go: Enjoy this lively display of traditional Russian and Ukrainian music and dancing. Stay for the movie following the program.
  • Price: FREE

  • Where:11200 Fairfax Station Road, Fairfax Station
  • When: Sunday, Aug. 21 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Why Go: Bring the family and have a fun afternoon watching the running model trains and displays, presented by the members of The Northern Virginia NTRAK.
  • Price: $3 per adult; $1 per child
