Weekend Planner: K-9 Krawl 5K and More

Making plans for the weekend?  Let Patch help you out with a list of unique local events happening in our area this Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

High School Varsity Football Home Games at Annandale HS, Falls Church HS, West Springfield HS, and Robinson SS

  • Where: AHS, 4700 Medford Drive, Annandale; FCHS, 7521 Jaguar Trail, Falls Church; WSHS, 6100 Rolling Road, Springfield; RSS, 5035 Sideburn Road, Fairfax
  • When: Friday, October 14th; all games start at 7:30 p.m.
  • Why Go: RSS will honor senior football players on Friday night, while AHS, FCHS, and WSHS will be playing their homecoming games.  Please click on the provided links for a complete list of pre-homecoming game parades and activities.
  • Price: Admission varies.  Please contact your local school for details.

5th Annual K-9 Krawl 5K

  • Where: 12000 Government Center Parkway, Fairfax – parking lot C
  • When: Saturday, October 15th; check-in begins at 8:30 a.m. and the walk starts at 9 a.m.
  • Why Go: October is National Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and the K-9 Krawl 5K was created to bring awareness to the connection between animal cruelty and domestic violence.  Bring your dog along for the walk, and then stay for the music, goodie bags, and information booths.  Please click on the link for more information about registration.
  • Price: FREE

Annandale CROP Walk

  • Where: Lake Accotink Marina, 7500 Accotink Park Road, Springfield
  • When: Saturday, October 15th; registration begins at 8:00 a.m. and the walk starts at 8:30 a.m.
  • Why Go: “CROP” stands for Communities Responding to Overcome Poverty.  This event raises funds to help fight hunger and poverty and also to provide disaster response and refugee assistance.  Enjoy a walk along the trails at Lake Accotink while contributing to a worthy cause.
  • Price: The event is free; donations accepted 

Lake Braddock Secondary School Annual Craft Show and Silent Auction

  • Where: Lake Braddock Secondary School, 9200 Burke Lake Road, Burke
  • When: Saturday, October 15th from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
  • Why Go: Peruse the wide variety of arts, crafts, and holiday items at this annual event that supports LBSS PTSA activities and teacher “mini grants”.  This is an indoor event that will be held rain or shine, and food will be available for purchase.
  • Price: Admission is $3; seniors 65 and over are $2; kids 17 and under are free

Watershed Cleanup at Lake Accotink Park

  • Where: Lake Accotink Marina, 7500 Accotink Park Road, Springfield
  • When: Saturday, October 15th from 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
  • Why Go: Help the environment by taking part in the International Coastal Cleanup project.  Join with others to pick up trash, old tires, and other debris from around Lake Accotink.  Volunteers should wear boots and gloves and dress appropriately for weather conditions. 
  • Price: There is no charge for participating in this event. 

“Jazz with Strings” Concert

  • Where: Northern Virginia Community College, 8333 Little River Turnpike, Annandale
  • When: Sunday, October 16th at 7:30 p.m.
  • Why Go: The RMS Jazz Orchestra and the NOVA Annandale Symphony Orchestra present a unique concert where the sounds of jazz mix with classic strings in this tribute to Charlie Parker and Clifford Brown.
  • Price:  General admission tickets are $15; seniors and students with ID are $10; children are free
