Workhouse Arts Center Presents Hitchcock, Show Tunes and More

Dinner and a Hitchcock thriller, show tunes, classical music and an art walk are on tap at the Workhouse Arts Center this weekend.

Got iffy plans? The Workhouse Arts Center will be brimming with creative energy this weekend. Things start off with a themed three-course dinner and a spellbinding movie on Friday night, followed by a musical and art walk Saturday and live music from the National Symphony Orchestra on Sunday.

Dinner and a Movie

Who doesn't like movies with diamond heists, Grace Kelly and the Riviera? Fortunately, the three come together in "To Catch A Thief." Cary Grant and Grace Kelly star in the spellbinding 1955 Hitchcock thriller.

The doors open at 7:15 p.m., and guests will be treated to a three-course dinner (and wine) designed to compliment the Mediterranean vibe of the film.

The menu:

  • First Course: European Baby Greens with Champagne Vinaigrette.
  • Second Course: Entree Choice of Bouef Bourguignon with Parsley Egg Noodles accompanied by Carrots Vichy OR Coq Au Vin with Wild Rice Pilaf and Carrots Vichy.
  • Third Course: House Made Crepes with Creme Anglaise and Fresh Fruit Compote.

The movie begins at 8 p.m. Tickets cost $50 per person.

Hard to Forget 'Broadway Memories'

The lights and sounds of Broadway will fill the Workhouse Theatre on Saturday night. “Broadway Memories”, which premiered the Workhouse's Cabaret Nights series last week, is back by popular demand. Ron Curamenghosts and Merissa Driscoll and Que Thanh Le will dance and sing to classic Broadway showtunes that'll make your eyes sparkle. Guests will be provided with fruit, cheese, bread and sweets and a cash beer-and-wine bar. Tickets cost $25 for the one-night-only performance.

Art Walk

November's Second Saturday Art Walk gives guests a chance to tour seven Workhouse studio buildings, meet artists and look at art with the option of having a drink with cheese and crackers. The free event goes from 6-9 p.m., and features an exhibition reception of new work by Workhouse artists in the Vulcan Gallery.

Classical music

Free, and beautiful music will be heard at the Workhouse's McGuire Woods Gallery on Sunday afternoon. Starting at 3 p.m., violinist Natasha Bogachek, and pianist Dasha Gabay, of the National Symphony Orchestra, will perform works by Saint-Saens, Faure, Wieniawsky, Massenet and Ravel. The event is hosted by the Music Friends of the Fairfax County Public Library.

Have a good weekend!
