The Great Escape: Philadelphia Flower Show

Flee to Philly for one day next month!

You've dropped the kids off at soccer practice, picked up dinner, thrown some clothes in the washer, unloaded the dishwasher and walked the dog. Ready for some "me" time?

Each week, we’ll tell you about one great idea to give you a much deserved break, and make your life a little easier, maybe a whole lot easier.

Today comes a plan to get away--really get away--to the 2011 International Philadelphia Flower Show. For this year's show, the theme is "Springtime in Paris." The show runs from March 6-13.

The 2011 Philadelphia International Flower Show will celebrate fashion, fragrances and flora that exemplify the height of Parisian influence and style when Springtime in Paris makes its debut March 6 to 13 at the Pennsylvania Convention Center, a press release from the show notes. The Show “runway” will be carpeted with vast collections, selections and specimens of plants, flowers and signature products all available during the Show at the official Flower Show Shoppe.

“Fashion and design have long been a part of the Philadelphia International Flower Show,” said Drew Becher, Pennsylvania Horticultural Society president. “This year, we are excited to incorporate signature Parisian elements and style that reinforce our 2011 theme, Springtime in Paris.”

You can even leave the driving to someone else. Although the Fairfax County Parktakes trip is at capacity, there are other tours available, including a bus trip by Reston Limousine. Reston Limousine offers three day trips to the flower show: Sunday, March 6th, Wednesday, March 9th, and Saturday, March 12th. Tickets are $61 for adults, $51 for children and $56 for students. Boarding is at Tysons/McLean at 8 a.m. Arrival in Philadelphia is at 11 a.m. The bus leaves Philly at 5 p.m. and passengers arrive back at Tysons at 8 p.m.
