Vienna Boys Choir

  •  Where: GMU Center for the Arts, Fairfax

  • Why Go: Enjoy an evening with the world renowned Vienna Boys Choir.  Featuring a variety of musical selections from medieval chants to popular music.  A pre-performance discussion will begin at 3:15 p.m.

Tea Ceremony and Tasting

  • Why Go: Observe and learn about an authentic Japanese tea ceremony.  A sampling of teas and refreshments will be available.

Making House Storybooks: Activity for Kids

  • Where: Alexandria Black History Museum, Alexandria
  • When: Saturday, March 10 from 11 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
  • Why Go: Local artist and writer Sushmita will demonstrate how to make these unique “house storybooks”.  For children ages 6-12.
  • Price:  $15 per family – Registration required.

Tracing Your Civil War Ancestors

  • Where: Fort Ward Museum and Historic Site, Alexandria
  • When: Saturday, March 10 at 1 p.m.
  • Why Go: Learn how to utilize available records and resources to trace your Civil War ancestors with the help of specialists from the National Archives.
  • Price:  Tickets are $10 – Reservations recommended

Cedar Lake Contemporary Ballet

  • Where: GMU Center for the Arts, Fairfax
  • When: Saturday, March 10 at 8 p.m.
  • Why Go: Enjoy an evening with this popular New York based modern dance troupe.  Arrive 45 minutes early for a pre-performance discussion.
  • Price:  Tickets range from $21 - $42

“Battle at the Capitol” Cheer and Dance Competition

  • Where: GMU Patriot Center, Fairfax
  • When: Saturday, March 10 and Sunday, March 11 – All Day
  • Why Go: Don’t miss this exciting weekend of competitive cheer and dance. 
  • Price:  One day - $20 per adult, $15 ages 6-12 and seniors, 5 and under FREE; Two day - $35 per adult, $25 ages 6-12 and seniors, 5 and under FREE

Nature Programs:

  • Birding with Andy - Waterfowl at Huntley Meadows Park, Alexandria.  Saturday, March 10 at 8 a.m.  For adults.  $6 per person – registration required.
  • Safari Saturday - Spring at Hidden Pond Nature Center, Springfield.  Saturday, March 10 at 10:30 a.m.  For ages 3-6.  $6 per person – registration required.
  • Snake and Turtle Feeding at Hidden Oaks Nature Center, Annandale.  Sunday, March 11 at 2 p.m.  For all ages – registration required.

A Well-Stocked Cellar: Dinner and Wine Tasting at Mount Vernon

  • Where: Mount Vernon Inn Restaurant, Mount Vernon
  • When: Friday, March 9 at 6:30 p.m.
  • Why Go: The evening includes a reception with Mount Vernon staff members, a private tour of the mansion and its wine cellar, and a four-course dinner paired with wines similar to the ones George Washington would have kept in his cellar. 
  • Price:  Tickets are $110 – Reservations required.
