A timely update from Braddock District Supervisor John C. Cook

495 Express Lanes Project to Cause Several Road Closures this Weekend.

VDOT will close the three right-most lanes on eastbound Braddock Road and two left lanes on westbound Braddock Road at the I-495 interchange on Saturday, January 28 from 9:00 p.m. to 9:00 a.m. Sunday morning, January 29. In addition, after midnight motorists should prepare for all lanes on Braddock Road east and west to be closed for up to 30 minutes to install an overhead sign structure and remove the existing overhead signage.

VDOT will also close Exit 47A, I-495 to Route 7 west (Leesburg Pike) on Saturday, January 28, from 6:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. During that time, motorists can use the following detour: I-495 north traffic exiting to Route7 west will be directed to continue to I-495 north to Exit 46A, Chain Bridge Road south (Route 123) and follow signage to I-495 south to Exit 47A, Route 7 west. Motorists traveling to Tysons Corner Center can access the mall by using Route 123 south.

Additionally the left lane of Route 7 will be closed, in both directions on Saturday, January 28.  The eastbound lane will be closed from 6:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and the westbound lane will be closed from 6:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.


Citizen Information Meeting on Interstate 66 Tier 1 Environmental Impact Statement

A Tier 1 Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) is being developed by the Virginia Department of Transportation, the Federal Highway Administration and the Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation to study potential multimodal improvements that will address existing and future transportation needs in the Interstate 66 corridor from U.S. Route 15 in Prince William County to Interstate 495 in Fairfax County.

The meetings, schedule below, are intended to gather additional public input to further define the transportation problems in the corridor and refine the purpose and need for the study.

Tuesday, January 31 at the Four Points Sheraton, 10800 Vandor Lane, Manassas; 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. 

Thursday, February 2 at the Virginia Department of Transportation Northern Virginia District Office at 4975 Alliance Drive in Fairfax; 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. 

Park Authority Seeks Community Input on Proposed Fees

The Fairfax County Park Authority would like the input of residents regarding the agency's proposed fee adjustments. County residents are encourages to submit comments at their annual meeting, held on Wednesday, February 1 at 7:00 p.m., in Room 106 of the Herrity Building at 12055 Government Center Parkway in Fairfax. 

If you would like additional information regarding the proposed fee changes you may view it online at http://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/parks/feemeeting.htm. A desk copy of the fee proposal is also available for review at Park Authority offices in the Herrity Building and at staffed park facilities. Comments from the community can also be mailed to: Attention Public Information Office/Fee Comments, Fairfax County Park Authority, 12055 Government Center Parkway, Suite 927, Fairfax, VA 22035-1118 or emailed to Parkmail@fairfaxcounty.gov no later than February 14.
