A timely update from Braddock District Supervisor John C. Cook

A timely update from Braddock District Supervisor John C. Cook September 20, 2011

If You Have Flood Debris, Fairfax County May be Able to Help

If you have experienced flooding in your home as a result of Tropical Storm Lee, Fairfax County may be able to provide assistance to defray the cost of removing the debris. There are several options:

  1. If you can haul the debris using your own vehicle, the county can supply a waiver for the disposal fee at the county transfer sites.
  2. If you do not receive county trash pickup, the Solid Waste Division may be still be able to pick flood debris, although with the level of demand, pick-up may take some time.
  3. Another option is to obtain preapproval for your own hauler to receive a discount for picking up flood debris. The county will require a picture and an estimate of the weight/volume of your flood debris in advance.
  4. Homeowners can hire a dedicated company (Got Junk, Junk B Gone, etc.) and obtain preapproval for such a firm to obtain a discount on the disposal fee. Once again, a picture and estimate of the weight/volume will be required. Once preapproval is given, the county must also be notified of the date and approximate time that the debris will be taken to a county facility.

If you have need for the collection and/or disposal of flood-related debris, please call 703-802-3322, TTY 711 to discuss your specific situation. If you would like to bring a picture of your debris into this office, we will scan it for you and see that it gets to the Division of Solid Waste for review and processing.

  • Date Changes for Both the Community Pools Meeting and the Second West Campus Connector Open House
  • The Community Pools Meeting, originally scheduled to take place on Wednesday, September 28 has been rescheduled for October 11 at 7:30 p.m. in Braddock Hall (9002 Burke Lake Road). We regret any inconvenience this may have caused anyone planning to attend on the original date.
  • Additionally, the University Community Forum has been moved to October 26 at 7:30 p.m. The meeting will still take place at the Fairfax City Hall Chambers, 10455 Armstrong Street. Originally scheduled for October 5, the meeting will largely serve as the Mason West Campus Connector Open House, though normal business of the University Community Forum will be discussed as well. The delay occurred to allow the consultants working for George Mason University more time to address the concerns and informational requests generated at the most recent West Campus Connector Advisory Group meeting.
  • If you have any questions regarding either of these meetings, please do not hesitate to contact the office at 703-425-9300.
