Fairfax Station Videographer Wins Two International Awards

Fairfax Station videographer Jerry Werthman takes home two gold awards from the 2011 Wedding and Event Videographers Association International Expo.

Despite winning two top videography awards from the Wedding and Event Videographers Association (WEVA) International, Cameo Video Productions’ owner Jerry Werthman remains humble.

“Winning an award in this competition is a tremendous honor. You can never count on or expect to win with such good producers from around the country and the world up against you,” Werthman said. “It would be presumptuous to think I had it coming.”

Werthman, a Fairfax Station resident, recently won two Creative Excellence Best-of-Category Gold Awards from WEVA: one for Social Event Coverage and the other for Social Event Highlights. Both award-winning videos were of military servicemen funerals at Arlington Cemetery. The awards were announced during the WEVA Expo 2011 LIVE Online Worldwide on October 26 and 27, and bring Werthman’s award-count up to four.

A retired Air Force Chief Information Officer, Werthman said he feels a strong connection with the grieving families which shines through in his videos. However, he never set out to become a funeral videographer.

“I joined the WEVA organization when I was starting my business and went to an expo in Vegas. I met an award winning producer there from Arlington, who’s no longer in the area, who showed me a funeral he did. Then one day I was called by an Air Force family attorney in Boston, who wondered if I had ever done a funeral, I told him no, but I’d seen an awarding one done, and he said ‘Well, that’s good enough for me,’” Werthman said.

From that first funeral, Werthman has gone on to win two WEVA awards for military servicemen funeral videos in 2006 and 2009.

Cameo Video Productions, founded in 2002, also produces videos for wedding, corporate, and any social or lifestyle event. In 2007, the popular wedding magazine “The Knot” also picked Werthman’s company as one of the area’s best.
