Dr. Ylva Bostrom took over the Animal Clinic of Clifton practice since July of last year after the clinic’s former vet .

Bostrom, who grew up in Northern Virginia, graduated from the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine in 1996. Most recently, she worked at the Companion Animal Clinic in Fairfax Station.

Ask the Vet:  How do you think practicing medicine differs in a small town like Clifton compared to a more populated area?

Bostrom: “We are trying to get to know all of the families really well. Everything here is individualized and we don’t need to rush anything.”  

Question: What made you want to be a vet?

Bostrom: "I like science and I liked animals and this was a combination of both of them. While I like the medical field, I don’t like hospitals and prefer to work with animals." 

What is the best part about your job?: "The best part of my job is helping people have a wonderful human and animal bond...If pets are well cared for, they can be a great part of the family."

What is the most challenging? "Euthanasias are the most challenging. They are just very, very sad." 

Bostroms clinic includes an exam room, treatment room, surgery room, and waiting area.
