The 40-year-old miniature train at Burke Lake Park is undergoing $897,000 in renovations, resulting in a trail closure in the park.
A segment of lakeside trail from the marina to the bridge along Burke Lake Road has been temporarily closed, the Fairfax County Parks Authority reports. The 2008 Park Bond provided funding specifically for this project in May 2010.
The trail is estimated to be closed for approximately four weeks. Switches, rails, and ties are among the renovations to be had on the train. Alternate trail routes have been posted online.
