Daylight Saving Time begins early Sunday, so get ready to set your clock forward one hour.

It officially begins at 2 a.m. on Sunday. Firefighters remind residents that the time change is the perfect opportunity to check the batteries on your smoke alarm and carbon monoxide detectors. In fact, to help bring awareness to fire safety issues.

Daylight Saving Time started in the United States during World War I as an effort to conserve energy. The time change better aligns sunrise and sunset with people’s normal waking hours. It was instituted again during World War II. Congress passed the Uniform Time Act, which standardized this, in 1966.
