Fairfax County Parkway Lane Closures: Feb. 27- March 2

Virginia Megaprojects released their information on road closures the week of Feb. 27 on the Fairfax County Parkway and beyond.

BRAC / FAIRFAX COUNTY PARKWAY EXTENSION PROJECTDaytime work - Closures occur between 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. unless otherwise noted.

  • Fairfax County Pkwy. (Route 7100) south to Rolling Rd. north - Single lane of ramp closed Monday - Friday for shoulder work. 
  • Fairfax County Pkwy. (Route 7100) north and south from Sydenstricker Rd. to Gambril Rd. - Single lane closed Monday - Friday for barrier work and overhead sign installation. 
  • Fairfax County Pkwy. (Route 7100) east from the Whitler's Creek Dr. to Accotink Creek bridge - Single lane closed Monday - Friday for the addition for median construction and new exit ramp.
  • Fairfax County Pkwy. extension (Route 7100) north to Franconia Springfield Parkway (Route 7900) - Single lane of ramp closed Monday - Friday for shoulder work.
  • Fairfax County Pkwy. (Route 7100) north and south from Barta Rd. to Franconia Springfield Pkwy. (Route 7900) - Single lane closed Monday - Friday for construction in median for shoulder work.

DULLES CORRIDOR METRORAIL PROJECT

Nighttime work - Closures occur between 9:30 p.m. and 5 a.m. unless otherwise noted.

  • I-495 north to Exit 46A, Chain Bridge Rd. (Route 123) south - Ramp closed Monday - Friday nights for bridge work. Traffic will be directed to take Exit 46B, Chain Bridge Rd. (Route 123) north, make a right on Old Meadow Rd., left on Colshire Dr. and then follow signs to Chain Bridge Rd. (Route 123) south. 
  • Dulles Connector Rd. (Route 267) east to Exit 19B, Dolley Madison Blvd. (Route 123) north - Ramp closed Wednesday night for road striping. Traffic will be directed to take Exit 19B, Dolley Madison Blvd. (Route 123) south and make a left at the signal onto Dolley Madison Blvd. (Route 123) north.
  • Dulles Connector Rd. (Route 267) east to Exit 19A, Dolley Madison Blvd. (Route 123) south - Ramp closed Sunday - Tuesday and Thursday nights for barrier work. Traffic will be directed to take Exit 19B, Dolley Madison Blvd. (Route 123) north, make a right onto Great Falls St., right onto Old Chain Bridge Rd., right onto Anderson Rd. and follow signs to Dolley Madison Blvd. (Route 123) south.
  • Chain Bridge Rd. (Route 123) north and south at Tysons Blvd. - Left turn lane closed Sunday - Friday nights for bridge work. Traffic will be directed to follow posted detour signs.
  • Galleria Dr. west at Tysons Blvd. - Three left turn lanes closed Sunday - Friday nights for span work. Traffic will be directed to follow posted detour signs.
  • Galleria Dr. east at Tysons Blvd. - Right turn lane closed Sunday- Friday nights for bridge work. Traffic will be directed to follow posted detour signs.
  • Tysons Blvd. east at Galleria Dr. - Two right lanes closed Sunday - Friday nights for bridge work. Traffic will be directed to follow posted detour signs.
  • Dolley Madison Blvd. (Route 123) south from Capital One Dr. to I-495 - Right lane closed Monday - Friday nights for bridge work.
  • Dolley Madison Blvd. (Route 123) north at Capital One Dr. - Left turn lane closed Friday and Saturday nights for concrete work.

Police will be on site for motorist safety. All closures are weather permitting.

Weekday work - Closures occur between 9:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. unless otherwise noted.

  • Expect daytime delays in the Tysons Corner area along the Dulles Connector Road (Route 267), Leesburg Pike (Route 7) and Dolley Madison Blvd. (Route 123).
    All closures are weather permitting.

495 EXPRESS LANES PROJECT

Nighttime work - Closures occur between 9:30 p.m. and 5 a.m. unless otherwise noted.

  • I-495 south to Exit 45B, Dulles Connector Rd. (Route 267) east - Ramp closed Monday - Friday nights for bridge overhang work. Traffic will be directed to continue south to Exit 46B, Chain Bridge Rd. (Route 123) north and follow signs to Dulles Connector Rd. (Route 267) east. 
  • Dulles Connector Rd. (Route 267) east at I-495 north - Road closed Monday and Tuesday nights for bridge deck pour. Traffic will be directed to take I-495 south to Exit 46B, Chain Bridge Rd. (Route 123) north and follow signs to Dulles Connector Rd. (Route 267) east.
  • Dulles Connector Rd. (Route 267) east to I-495 north - Ramp closed Monday - Friday nights for bridge overhang work. Traffic will be directed to take I-495 south to Exit 46B, Chain Bridge Rd. (Route 123) north, stay to the right and follow signs to I-495 north. 
  • I-495 north to Exit 46B, Chain Bridge Rd. (Route 123) north - Ramp closed Sunday night for barrier movement. Traffic will be directed to take Exit 46A, Chain Bridge Rd. (Route 123) south, stay to the right, follow signs to I-495 south, stay to the right to enter onto Chain Bridge Rd. (Route 123) north.
  • Chain Bridge Rd. (Route 123) north to I-495 south - Ramp closed Thursday night for overhead sign installation. Traffic will be directed to continue north, follow signs to I-495 north, stay to the right, enter onto Chain Bridge Rd. (Route 123) south, stay to the right and follow signs to I-495 south.
  • Chain Bridge Rd. (Route 123) north at Westpark Dr. overpass - Right lane closed Thursday night for overhead sing installation.
  • I-495 north from Oak St. overpass to Exit 47, Leesburg Pike (Route 7) - Three left lanes closed Monday - Saturday nights for traffic shift. Expect intermittent full road closures of up to 30 minutes after midnight.
  • I-495 north to Exit 47A and B, Leesburg Pike (Route 7) west and east - Ramps closed Friday and Saturday nights for traffic shift. Traffic will be directed to continue north to Exit 46A, Chain Bridge Rd. (Route 123) south, stay to the right, follow signs to I-495 south and take Exit 47A or B, Leesburg Pike (Route 7) west or east.
  • Leesburg Pike (Route 7) east and west from Kidwell overpass to Lisle Ave. - Right lane closed Wednesday night for sign work.
  • Leesburg Pike (Route 7) east to I-66 west - Ramp closed intermittently for up to 30 minutes after midnight Sunday - Saturday nights for overhead sign installation.
  • I-495 north to Exit 49A, I-66 west - Single left ramp lane closed Sunday - Saturday nights for traffic shift.
  • I-66 west to I-495 south - Ramp closed Sunday - Saturday nights for bridge work. Traffic will be directed to continue west to Exit 62, Nutley St. south, stay to the right, follow signs to I-66 east to I-495 south.
  • I-66 west from Exit 67, Dulles Connector Rd. (Route 267) to Exit 64, I-495 - Two lanes closed Sunday - Saturday nights for utility work and traffic shift. Expect intermittent full road closures of up to 30 minutes after midnight.
  • I-66 east from Exit 62, Nutley St. overpass to I-495 - Two lanes closed Sunday - Saturday nights for bridge work. Expect intermittent full road closures of up to 30 minutes after midnight. 
  • Nutley St. south to I-66 east - Ramp closed Sunday - Saturday nights for overhead sign installation. Prior to work zone, traffic will be directed to take I-66 west to Exit 57A, Lee Jackson Memorial Hwy. (Route 50) east, stay to the right and follow signs to I-66 east.
  • I-495 north and south from Idylwood Rd. overpass to Exit 50, Arlington Blvd. (Route 50) - Three lanes closed Sunday - Saturday nights for bridge work. Expect intermittent full road closures of up to 30 minutes after midnight.
  • I-495 south from Exit 50, Arlington Blvd. (Route 50) to Exit 51, Gallows Rd. (Route 650) - Three left lanes closed Thursday and Friday nights for overhead sign work. Expect intermittent full road closures of up to 30 minutes after midnight.
  • I-495 south to Exit 50B, Arlington Blvd. (Route 50) east - Ramp closed Thursday and Friday nights for overhead sign work. Traffic will be directed to continue south to Exit 51, Gallows Rd. (Route 650), make a left at the light onto Gallows Rd. (Route 650) south, follow signs to I-495 north and take Exit 50, Arlington Blvd. (Route 50) east.
  • Arlington Blvd. (Route 50) west to I-495 south - Ramp closed Thursday and Friday nights for overhead sign work. Traffic will be directed to continue west to Gallows Rd. (Route 650) south and follow signs to I-495 south.
  • I-495 north to Exit 51, Gallows Rd. (Route 650) - Ramp closed intermittently for up to 30 minutes after midnight for traffic shift.
  • Gallows Rd. (Route 650) north and south at I-495 - Multiple lanes closed Thursday night for overhead sign installation. Expect intermittent full road closures of up to 30 minutes after midnight.
  • I-495 south at Wakefield Park pedestrian bridge - Three right lanes closed Monday - Thursday nights for road work.

Weekday work- Closures occur between 9:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. unless otherwise noted.

  • Expect single lane closures on the Inner and Outer Loops of I-495 from Springfield Interchange to beyond the Dulles Toll Rd. (Route 267) within the project area including all connecting arterials.

Ongoing work

  • Twelve interchanges along the I-495 corridor from the Springfield Interchange to just north of the Dulles Toll Road are under construction until December 2012. Visit the 495 Express Lanes Interchange Fact Sheet Page.

Daytime work - Closures occur between 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. unless otherwise noted.

  • Richmond Hwy (Route 1) north and south at Belvoir Rd. - Single lane closed Monday - Saturday for signal work and road widening.
  • Richmond Hwy (Route 1) north and south at Pohick Rd. - Single lane closed Monday - Saturday for ground and signal work.
