Fewer Feral Cats Reported in Fairfax County

The Fairfax County Animal Shelter attributes its trap, neuter, and return program to the downturn in feral cats.

The Fairfax County Animal Shelter is reporting fewer feral cats in the county since the trap, neuter, and return program began in 2008.

The Fairfax shelter saw a 58 percent decrease in the number of feral cats in the shelter’s foster care program from 2010 to 2011. There was also a 41 percent decrease in the number of kittens entering the shelter, according to the organizations press release.

Since the program began in 2008, 1,800 feral caps have been trapped, neutered, vaccinated, and released.
