1. 39th Annual Clifton House Tour

  • Where/When: Paradise Springs Winery, 13219 Yates Ford Rd, Clifton/Thursday, May 19 from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
  • Why Go: Tour four unique homes including a log cabin dating back to the early 1800’s. The winery will be offering boxed lunches and has opened up their newly completed barn for a market place and silent auction.

2. Bike to Work Day

  • Why Go: Enjoy a guided sunset tour through the many coves of the Occoquan Reservoir with your friends and family.

4. Family Festival: Spies and Scouts of the Civil War

  • Where/When: Carlyle House Historic Park, 121 N. Fairfax Street, Alexandria/Saturday, May 21 from 2 to 5 p.m.
  • Why Go: On May 24, 1861 Union Troops occupied Alexandria and many of the residents became spies. The Carlyle House was frequented by Confederate spy Frank Stringfellow and Sarah Emma Edmonds who disguised herself as a Union Soldier. Spend the day decoding secret messages and see if you have what it takes to be a spy.

5. Life in Civil War Alexandria: A 150th Commemorative Event

  • Where/When: Market Square, 301 King Street, Alexandria/Saturday, May 21 from 2 to 5 p.m.
  • Why Go: Historical re-enactors will demonstrate what it must have been like for the military and civilians living in a southern town that was transformed into an armed camp behind Northern lines.
