July Fourth Safety Tips for Pets from Clifton Vet

How to keep your pet safe on Independence Day.

Dr. Ylva Bostrom, of the , gives pet owners the following tips on pet safety for July 4:

Fourth of July is full of family fun, but can be a dangerous time for pets.

  1. Dogs and cats have much more sensitive hearing than humans. The fireworks can be very frightening for them. Be careful of Retriever dogs, they are willing to chase after anything, including roman candles.
  2. Keep your pets cool during the hot weather. They should be kept indoors or in the shade during these hot days and make sure to provide ample amounts of water for them.
  3. Dogs love to eat things that they shouldn’t, including holiday items such as corn on the cob. The cob can get stuck in the dog’s intestines, and many veterinarians have done surgeries to remove them.

Have a festive Fourth of July and keep your furry friends safe!
