Soaring Temperatures Bring Heat Advisory Wednesday

The forecast calls for a hot and sunny day, around 97 degrees in Fairfax Station.

The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a heat advisory for Wednesday, effective from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. 

The Heat Index Value—the perceived temperature—will be around 105 degrees. The NWS' forecast for the Fairfax Station area calls for a sunny and hot day, with a high of 97 degrees. After 2 p.m. there's a 40 percent chance of rain, and the possibility of a thunderstorm. 

The combination of hot temperatures and high humidity will make heat illnesses possible. The NWS advises drinking lots of fluids and staying out of the sun. Elderly relatives and neighbors should be checked on. To read summer safety tips for pets, .

Due to the high temperatures, the Fairfax Connector system will allow riders to drink water on board buses Wednesday. 

Things may cool off Wednesday night, though. There's a chance of rain and thunderstorms. The forecast calls for a mostly cloudy evening, with a low of around 72 degrees.
