Authorities Step Up Enforcement for Labor Day Weekend

Virginia State Police will be on the lookout for impaired drivers

Authorities will be stepping up enforcement this Labor Day weekend.

In 2009, 13 motorists died in accidents over the holiday weekend, according to the Virginia State Police.

State troopers will be on the look out in stationary and roving patrols to search for drunken drivers. In 2010, Virginia State Police arrested 132 drunk drivers during the four-day period.

Fairfax County police officers will also be conducting sobriety checkpoints over the Labor Day weekend.

On Saturday, September 3, officers from the Marine Patrol unit will conduct a sobriety checkpoint from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. Boaters in Pohick Bay.

On Sunday, September 4, officers will be teaming up with Prince William County Police and Virginia State Police troopers to hold a checkpoint in the Franconia Police District between 11 a.m. and 2 a.m., authorities said.
