Fairfax Co. Seeks Auxiliary Officers

The Fairfax County Police Department is currently accepting applications.

The Fairfax County Police Department is looking for a few good men and women to join the all-volunteer civilian Auxiliary Police Officer program.

Auxiliary officers staff sobriety checkpoints, protect the integrity of crime scenes, and could be deployed to natural disaster situations, among other duties.

Doctors, lawyers, accountants and engineers are among those who are currently serving as auxiliary officers, the department said.

Prospective officers must pass a background check and are required to undergo training at the Criminal Justice Academy in Chantilly two evenings a week and a few Saturdays a month during the 16-week academy slated to begin in January 2013.
