Fairfax Station Celebrates National Night Out

Big event at Target on New Guinea Road; smaller events across the community

Tuesday evening, dozens of Fairfax Station area residents will be turning on their porch lights and spending quality time outside with their neighbors. August 2 is the 28th annual National Night Out.

Sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch, National Night Out is an organized evening where community and civic organizations, local police and fire departments and residents take to the streets to build community and take a stand against violence and crime.

Target, the national corporate sponsor for National Night Out, is hosting a Fairfax-wide event from 6 to 9 p.m. in their parking lot at 10301 New Guinea Road in Fairfax.

Derek Ashley, assets protection team leader for the Fairfax store, said it will be a family friendly party atmosphere featuring food vendors, a moon bounce, live music, and dunk tank.Β  "It's a pretty big deal for Burke," said Ashley.Β  "It's gotten bigger and bigger every year."

Also on hand will be the Burke Volunteer Fire & Rescue Department - Fairfax County Fire Station 14, officers from the West Springfield District Police, Fairfax County's Sheriff's Department, Virginia State Police, and McGruff the Crime Dog.Β  Burke Patch will also be on hand.
