Fire at Fairfax Station Home Causes $205,000 Worth of Damage

The fire was reported Thursday. The home was vacant at the time.

A fire at a Fairfax Station home caused $205,000 worth of damage, officials said. 

According to the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department, the fire was reported at about 2 p.m. Thursday at a home on 5704 Captain Jones Court. 

When firefighters arrived, they encountered heavy smoke and fire coming from the basement. The fire was contained within 15 minutes, according to the department.

The home was vacant and under renovation at the time. One firefighter was taken to INOVA Fairfax Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

According to fire investigators, the fire was accidental. Construction workers using a plumber's torch too close to combustibles caused the fire, officials said.
