Firefighters To Promote Smoke Alarms

Firefighters will go door to door on Saturday for safety efforts.

Firefighters will go door to door in Fairfax County checking for working smoke alarms and providing families fire escape plans on Saturday.

The Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department partners with the U.S. Fire Administration in the “Install. Inspect. Protect.” campaign.

Firefighters will give out smoke alarms provided through a grant from the Virginia Department of Fire Programs on Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon.

More then 3,000 people die in homes fires each year nationwide, most of whom live in homes without a working smoke alarm, according to the National Fire Protection association.

This Sunday, March 11, begining at 2 a.m. also marks the beginning of Daylight Saving Time. Fire safety officials have traditionally used the "fall forward" and "spring back" days as reminders for homeowners and residents to check their batteries on smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors.
