UPDATE: High School Football Coach Faces Steroid Charges

UPDATE (5:35 p.m.) Reagan is suspended from FCPS without pay, NBC-4 is reporting this afternoon.

UPDATE: West Springfield High School Principal Mark Greenfelder sent an email to parents regarding the arrest of a prospective football coach for the school, Jeffery Reagan. The following is the text of the letter:

Dear WSHS Community,

We have been made aware that Jeffrey Reagan, a prospective coach whom we were evaluating to add to our football coaching staff, was arrested by Fairfax County Police Department narcotics detectives.  Mr. Reagan is an experienced coach in the area and had completed all the requirements established by FCPS to be employed as a coach.  Mr. Reagan attended two days of the recent football camp and a fitness work out session as part of his being evaluated to join the football staff. We want to assure parents that he was never alone with any of the athletes during this time. Mr. Reagan will no longer be associated with West Springfield HS.

A man who coached football at for several years, was most recently associated with the football program and taught at was arrested on Tuesday in the Sully Plaza Shopping Center in Chantilly. He allegedly met his illegal steroid supplier there at about 1:30 p.m.  

Fairfax County Organized Crime and Narcotics Unit detectives received a tip in December 2011, and launched an investigation. After meticulous follow up, police arrested Jeffery Reagan, 43, of Bristow, Va., and charged him with possession with intent to distribute steroids and conspiracy to distribute steroids.

His alleged supplier was also arrested.  Jeremy Helbing, 35, of Leesburg was charged with distribution and conspiracy.

After the arrest, Fairfax detectives worked with Loudoun County narcotics detectives and went to Helbing’s home in Leesburg, where they uncovered numerous substances which are pending lab results.
