Patrick Moran resigns from his father's reelection campaign, 7-year-old Lorton girl burned in gasoline fire and a man holds up the TD Bank on Richmond Highway.

Obviously, Hurricane Sandy has been dominating the news the past few days, but here are a few other stories of note in the past week from Patch sites across southern Fairfax County: 

Moran's Son Resigns From Campaign Following 'Error in Judgment'

Patrick Moran, son of Democratic U.S. Rep. Jim Moran, has resigned from his father's reelection campaign.

"Effective immediately, I have resigned from the Moran for Congress campaign," Patrick Moran said in an email.

The resignation follows the release of a near 27-minute video filmed in various locations in Arlington's Courthouse community in which the younger Moran apparently talks with someone posing as a supporter about skirting new voter identification laws.

The video was released by conservative activist James O'Keefe, whose work has been discredited in the past.

Saturday, Virginia's Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli said he is also investigating the matter.

Former Annandale Massage Parlor Owner Pleads Guilty to Prostitution, Money Laundering

The former owner of an Annandale massage parlor pled guilty Thursday in federal court to charges of prostitution and money laundering, the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of Virginia announced. 

The former owner, Susan Lee Gross, also known as Ju Mee Lee Gross, 46, is originally from South Korea but now lives in Trinidad, Colo. She could face up to five years in prison for the prostitution charge and up to 20 years for money laundering.

The business, Peach Therapy, is still open in Annandale.

Trial for Tae Kwon Do Instructor Set for January

The trial for Quyen Vinh Phan Le — a 38-year-old Franconia resident — will be held Jan. 14, 2013 at 10 a.m., according to the Fairfax County Circuit Court. Le was indicted of four counts of indecent liberties with a minor by someone in a custodial or supervisory relationship and three counts of possession of child pornography.

Le was a tae kwon do instructor at Burke's Phan University of Martial Arts. Officers said they were contacted by the first victim in June 2011. During the course of their investigation, a second victim was discovered.

Man Holds Up TD Bank on Richmond Highway

Fairfax County Police are investigating a bank robbery that occurred last Thursday around 1:30 p.m. A man entered the TD Bank located at 6615 Richmond Highway and implied he had a weapon, according to a news release from the Mount Vernon Police District.

The suspect then demanded money from a teller who complied and the suspect fled. No one was injured during the incident.

Lorton Girl, 7, Burned by Gasoline Fire, Medevaced to Burn Center

A 7-year-old Lorton girl received life-threatening injuries last week Saturday afternoon when she was burned in a gasoline fire in the garage of her family's home, according to Captain William Moreland of Fairfax County Fire and Rescue.

The emergency call to 911 came at approximately 5 p.m. Saturday, Moreland said. There is an online fundraiser in progress for the girl. 

Fairfax County Board of Supervisors Meeting

At this point, the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors is still planning to meet Tuesday, but the weather may change those plans. Visit the county website to view agenda items specific meetings.
