Man Dies from Injuries in Clifton House Fire

The name of the deceased will be released pending notification of next of kin.

An elderly man has died from injuries he sustained in a house fire Wednesday in Clifton, according to Fairfax County Fire and Rescue. 

Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department units responded to the house fire Wednesday at approximately 4:25 a.m., in the Clifton area of Fairfax County. The single-family home is located on Willow Valley Road.

Firefighters encountered heavy smoke coming from the first floor of the two-story home upon arrival. Firefighters simultaneously searched the home and conducted an aggressive fire attack.

Firefighters rescued the elderly adult male from inside the home. Two other adults escaped the home prior to firefighters arriving. Firefighters brought the fire under control in approximately 10 minutes. 

The elderly male was flown to Washington Hospital Burn Center with life-threatening injuries. The other two occupants were transported by ground to the Washington Hospital Burn Center, also with life-threatening injuries.

The elderly male died later from his injuries.

Damage is estimated at $40,000.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

The name of the deceased will be released pending notification of next of kin. The medical examiner will determine the cause and manner of death.
