State Police to Step Up Traffic Enforcement Memorial Day Weekend

The efforts are part of Operation C.A.R.E..

Virginia State Police troopers will step up traffic enforcement this Memorial Day weekend.

Last year on Memorial Day weekend, 12 died in traffic crashes statewide—at least nine victims were unbuckled. In 2010, 11 were killed; and seven were killed in 2009, according to Virginia State Police.

“We should never take for granted the importance of wearing a seatbelt as statistics have proven it can help save your life or reduce your chance for injuries in a crash,”  Colonel W. Steven Flaherty, Virginia State Police superintendent, stated in a press release.
