Animal Activists to Speak Out Against Deer Hunts

Animal activists plan to speak out at Tuesday's Board of Supervisors meeting


Animal activists will speak out against the county’s Deer Management Program at the Fairfax County Board of Supervisor’s meeting Tuesday.

Representatives from the California-based group In Defense of Animals will give their comments against the program that aims to control the white-tailed deer population through controlled hunts.

The group plans to speak during the public comment portion of the meeting. Comments are scheduled for 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 6, at the Fairfax County Government Center board auditorium at 12000 Government Center Pkwy.

At minimum, about 60 to 100 deer per square mile live in Fairfax County, which exceeds the area’s biological carrying capacity of 15 to 20 deer per square mile, according to Vicky Monroe, Fairfax County wildlife biologist.
