Democrat Attorney Gen. Candidate Mark Herring Making Campaign Appearance in Springfield

Herring will speak at the Greenspring Retirement Community on Thursday.

Virginia Sen. Mark Herring, the Democratic candidate for attorney general, will speak to members of the Greenspring Retirement Community Democratic Club in Springfield on Thurs. Aug. 22.

Herring will speak at 7:30 p.m.

Herring (D-Loudoun County) recently released a plan to establish an independent ethics commission and set $100 limits on gifts to Virginia’s public officials and their immediate family members. The proposal comes after Republican Bob McDonnell received (and later returned) about $150,000 in gifts from Star Scientific CEO Jonnie Williams.

“We need a change in Virginia’s ethics laws,” Herring said. “We can’t legislate honesty, but we can make it harder and more costly to violate ethics rules.”
