Democratic Women of Clifton Plan Fall Activities

The DWC look for volunteers to help with fall political campaigns

The Democratic Women of Clifton (DWC) are gearing up for the fall campaign season.

Their first priority is to remind voters about absentee ballots. People who will be out of town for the election on November 11 can easily apply online for absentee ballots. The forms must be completed and mailed or faxed by Oct. 26. For more detailed information, visit the Virginia State Board of Elections website.

The DWC are concentrating their efforts on State Senators George Barker and Dave Marsden. To support their candidacies, the Clifton group has planned several activities. Volunteers are needed to help staff them.

Each Wednesday evening from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., Senator Barker’s Campaign Team holds a Women’s Calling & Cupcake Night. His headquarters are conveniently located in Springfield. Enjoy yummy cupcakes, make telephone calls and tackle clerical work. If this sounds like your cup of tea, then call Becca Durr at 703-663-8001.

On Wednesday, August 24, the DWC are hosting a special event -- the George Barker Birthday Phone Bank and Canvass. Coordinator Jared Kahanek at 703-663-8001 or jkahanek@gmail.com, invites volunteers to join the fun from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Back-to-School Nights offer another opportunity for volunteering. The person in charge of this activity is Ruth Miller, who would appreciate hearing from you at ruthkmiller@gmail.com.

Volunteers are needed at these schools to hand our campaign material:

Union Mill Elementary - Tuesday, Sept. 13  & Wednesday, Sept. 14

Centreville High - Wednesday, Sept. 21

Liberty Middle - Thursday, Sept. 15

Silverbrook Elementary - Wednesday, Sept. 14  & Thursday, Sept. 15

Willow Springs Elementary - Monday, Sept. 12 & Tuesday, Sept. 13

Back-to-School Night volunteers arrive at the schools at 6:15, help to set up the information tables, and leave after an hour. It is an easy way to help your candidates, learn about issues and visit with your neighbors.

Now here’s the easiest volunteer job of all. Many young people from other areas serve as interns during the campaign. They need places to sleep, take a bath and brush their teeth. If you have a spare bedroom or a couch in your basement, the DWC hope you will give Becca Durr a call at 703-663-8001.
