WHO’S ON THE BALLOT

Clifton and Fairfax Station area residents will be selecting a state senator, house delegates, and Fairfax County schools and government officials.

Culipher, Petersen: State Senate – District 34

Incumbent , a Democrat, is facing a challenge from . Petersen (website, Facebook, Twitter) has served in the Virginia State Senate since 2008. Culipher (website, Facebook, Twitter) is a lawyer and law professor.

Flanary, Marsden: State Senate – District 37

Incumbent Democrat will face for the 37th district state senate seat. Marsden (website, Facebook, Twitter) had served in the House of Delegates from 2006 - 2009 and was sent to the Senate in a special election in January 2010. Flanary (website, Facebook) is a businessman.

Baker, Barker: State Senate – District 39

Republican is challenging incumbent Democrat George Barker. Barker (website, Facebook) has been a senator since 2008. Baker (website, Facebook, Twitter) is an appellate lawyer specializing in Constitutional issues.

Bulova, Schoeneman: House of Delegates – District 37

Incumbent Democrat is facing a challenge from Republican . Bulova (website, Facebook, Twitter) has served in the House of Delegates since . Schoeneman (website, Facebook, Twitter) has been in politics since 1995; he also was a small business owner and currently works for a maritime labor union.

Blais, Hugo: House of Delegates – District 40

, an independent, is challenging incumbent Republican . Blais (website, Facebook) was an executive with a private company for years and has fostered dozens of children. Hugo (website, Facebook, Twitter) has served in the House of Delegates since 2003.

Filler-Corn, Kane: House of Delegates – District 41

Incumbent Delegate is facing a challenge from Libertarian . Kane (website, Facebook) is the vice president of a small, local construction company. Filler-Corn (website, Facebook) has served in the House of Delegates since 2010 (special election).

FAIRFAX COUNTY

Local residents are split between more than one Fairfax County Board of Supervisors districts. You can find out which district you live in on the Fairfax County government website.

Board of Supervisors Chair

Incumbent (website, Facebook, Twitter)is being challenged by Republican (website, Facebook), Independent candidate Will Radle (YouTube, Facebook) and Independent candidate Christopher DeCarlo (website, YouTube).

Braddock District

Republican incumbent John Cook (website) is facing Democrat (website) and Independent candidate for the Braddock District seat on the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors. 

Springfield District

Republican Patrick (“Pat”) Herrity (website) is running unopposed.

Fairfax County Sheriff

Republican is facing current in this election. Cooper (website, Facebook) is a former deputy sheriff lieutenant.  Barry (website) has been Fairfax County Sheriff for 12 years, though there is some controversy over as it relates to his potential re-election.

SCHOOL BOARD

Seven candidates are running for at-large seats on the Fairfax County school board. In addition, voters will choose school board representatives for the local school districts.

Bond Referendum: Fairfax County Public Schools

Shall the Board of Supervisors of Fairfax County, Virginia, contract a debt, borrow money, and issue capital improvement bonds in the maximum aggregate principal amount of $252,750,000 for the purposes of providing funds, in addition to funds from school bonds previously authorized and any other available funds, to finance, including reimbursement to the County for temporary financing for, the costs of school improvements, including acquiring, building, expanding and renovating properties, including new sites, new buildings or additions, renovations and improvements to existing buildings, and furnishings and equipment, for the Fairfax County public school system? Yes or no.

FAIRFAX CO. SOIL AND WATER CONSERVATION DIRECTOR

Voters may vote for up to three people for the position of Soil and Water Conservation Director, Northern Virginia District.

The agency's goal, according to it's website, "is to promote clean streams and protected natural resources."  It is not a regulatory agency, but provides technical expertise in soils, conservation engineering, water quality and erosion control.
