Fall Activities of the Republican Women of Clifton: Barbecue and Silent Auction

This active and friendly club invites you to participate in a fall fundraiser

The Republican Women of Clifton (RWC) was formed in 2006. Its first meeting had 12 participants. It now numbers close to 100 members. The group’s goals, according to its website are “to foster conservative values and to support Republican candidates and elected officials in Fairfax County.”

Recent activities and upcoming events from the Republican Women of Clifton:

At the Primary election on August 23, the Republican Women of Clifton (RWC) sponsored an information table outside Clifton Elementary School. The club was represented by Wendy Burdette, one of the group’s First Vice Presidents, Orene Blum, Mary Howard, J’Neane Coffman and Margaret Baker. They were accompanied by Orene’s husband, Paul Blum, who described himself as a member of the “RWC Auxiliary.”

The Annual Summer Barbecue and Silent Auction was originally planned for Aug. 28. With Hurricane Irene looming, however, the event was postponed until Sunday, Sept. 18 from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. Participant will have the opportunity to meet the Republican candidates for the State Senate and the House of Delegates.

Families, including children, are invited to the Barbecue. Admission for an individual is $20 and $50 for a family. Children 12 and under are free. Guests will feast on “a delectable selection of tasty bites,” promises the invitation, and sample the fine wines of Paradise Springs.

In addition to eating and listening to the candidates, participants can browse through the premiums at the Silent Auction until the bidding closes. Lucky bidders can win such luxuries as a Jeff Lubin Photography Certificate, valued at $1300; a 48" x 56" mural painting of your choice in your home, valued at $1200; and a Lorenzo Collection set of earrings and pendant with a $350 value, donated by Eminence Jewelers of Clifton.

If you like to read, book-filled baskets from the Liberty Belles Literary Society are available. Roland Mesnier, a Fairfax Station resident and the former longtime White House Pastry Chef, has donated one of his books, too. Many other items will be offered at the Silent Auction, including a beauty and hair certificate from Clifton’s De-Lush Hair Designs, a large selection of both fine and designer jewelry and gift certificates to local restaurants.

RWC member Orene Blum explained that the money raised at the big fund-raiser, the Barbeque and Silent Auction will go toward college scholarships and to help conservative candidates.

The RWC also support several charities, member Blum added: Wreaths Across America, care packages for our troops in Afghanistan and Iraq through St. Stephen’s Methodist Church, the Mamie Eisenhower Literary Project and the Katherine K. Hanley Family Shelter.
