About 40 People Vote in Clifton Elections

The incumbents were uncontested.

Forty-seven people cast votes in the Clifton town general elections on Tuesday, according to the Virginia State Board of Elections preliminary results.

None of the incumbents faced challenges and all incumbents ran for re-election this spring.

The unchallenged incumbents are Mayor William Hollaway, Wayne Nickum, Charles Rusnak, Dwayne Nitz, John Powell and Deborah Dillard.

Prior to the election, Patch published questionnaires with candidates , , Deb Dillard and . Council members answered questions about the future prospects for the town's streetscape master plan, among other issues.

Hollaway received 35 votes (and one person voted for an unidentified write-in candiate). Nitz received 42 votes, which was more than any other council candidate.

Dillard inadvertently was unable to file name on the ballot on time, but was re-elected as a write-in candidate.

In 2010, more than 200 people voted in Clifton. That year, Halloway won with 80 votes despite voters casting 112 votes ballots for various write-in candidates.
