Last Chance: Citizens Police Academy Applications Due Friday

The deadline is Friday for the Fairfax County police department program.

The Fairfax County Police Department is now accepting applications to its Citizens Police Academy, which will run from Sept. 13 to Nov. 17.

Participants will learn about the variety of resources involved in preventing and solving crime and the daily challenges faced by police officers. Bill Trapp, who heads the McLean Police Citizens Advisory Committee, raves about this program.

The deadline for consideration for the fall academy is June 30.

Classes will be held on 10 consecutive Thursday evenings from 6:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. at police facilities throughout the county. Graduation will be held on Saturday, Nov. 17 from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Firearms Range and Emergency Vehicle Operations Center in Chantilly.

Applicants are required to live or work in Fairfax County, must be 18 years of age, and must provide their own transportation to and from training. Acceptance is subject to review of applicant’s criminal record and police contact history.
