Marsden Campaign Signs Violated Zoning Laws

Signs supporting Senator Dave Marsden were put up ahead of when zoning laws allow

Senator Dave Marsden’s campaign is removing re-election signs posted in public medians because the placement of the signs violated county zoning laws.

Marsden represents the 37th State Senate District, which includes portions of Fairfax Station, Annandale, Centreville, and Burke. He is up for re-election in November. Two Republican candidates, Jason Flanary and Steve Hunt, are vying for Marsden’s seat. The Republican primaries are on August 23.

Fairfax County Zoning laws state that election signs can not be put up more then 75 days prior to the election.  It is 108 days before the November 8 general election.

The Marsden campaign is working to get the signs removed, said campaign manager Kiel Brunner.

“We had never directed our staff or supporters to place the signs,” Brunner said. “I think this is a case of overeager supporters."

An exact count of how many campaign signs were placed was not available. Flanary's campaign manager Kevin Hartley estimated that about 100 signs were put out.
