The first debate between Virginia gubernatorial candidates Terry McAuliffe and Ken Cuccinelli is set for Sept. 25 in McLean at Capital One's headquarters.
The focus of the debate will be Virginia's economy and other issues facing businesses in Northern Virginia. It will be aired live in prime time from 7-8 p.m. on NBC4 and NBC affiliates in Richmond, Charlottesville, Bristol and other cities throughout the Commonwealth.
“For the 25th year in a row, we’re pleased to host Northern Virginia’s political debate,” said Jim Corcoran, Fairfax Chamber president and CEO. “If the 2009 Virginia Governor’s race is any indication, history has shown us that to fare well in Northern Virginia a candidate must do well in this debate. We’re eager to hear from the candidates in this nationally watched race about their stances on the issues most critical to business.”
“It is extremely important for Virginia voters to hear directly from the candidates,” said Jackie Bradford, president and general manager of NBC4. “I am happy that, through our relationship with the Fairfax County Chamber of Commerce, NBC4 can provide that platform in this important election cycle.”
The Fairfax Chamber, The Voice of Business in Northern Virginia™, has hosted an annual political debate every year since 1989 for local, state and federal races of paramount importance to the business community in Northern Virginia.
More information about this year’s political debate will be made available on the Fairfax Chamber website at www.fairfaxchamber.org in the coming weeks.
