Town Officials Talk Streetscape, Park Plans

Summary of Events for the Town Council Meeting on April 5

Were you not able to make it out to the Clifton town council meeting last night?

Here are the highlights:

  • Streetscape Plan: Town officials approved the appointments of several residents to the streetscape working group. The group plans to do public outreach about an ongoing streetscape project in the town. Officials hope would the streetscaping project would revitalize Main Street by modifying the roadway, sidewalks, drainage system and landscaping features, according to the town’s comprehensive plan. A public meeting for residents to learn more about the project was scheduled for April 28.
  • Floodplain Park: Town officials authorized a plan to enter into a project agreement with the Virginia Department of Transportation to develop Floodplain Park. It is an initial step in developing 14-acres of town-owned land into a public park. The park would include a portion of Pope’s Head Creek, according to the town’s comprehensive plan. 
  • Eagle Scout Presentation: Boy Scout Alex Winkowski presented his Eagle Scout Project to the town council. Winkowski has been working on a brochure identifying the flora within Buckley Park. The project is scheduled to be complete in May.
  • Protocol on Dumpsters: A local resident issued a complain regarding the dumpsters belonging to the Clifton Café. Resident Steve Effros told town officials that he has seen trash from the dumpsters overflow out, causing what he said was a public nuisance. Clifton Café management said that they would keep an eye on the trash situation. The town’s planning commission will also investigate.
  • Webite Move and Redesign: The town may be getting a revamped website soon.  Officials will meet with website designers to give the site a new look.
